[ translate ]

Ring with cartouche of Amenhotep III. Culture Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom period, 18th - 20th Dynasty, 1550 - 1070 BC.
Fayenza.
Provenance: Private collection of J. Martà , Barcelona. Acquired at the Barcelona art market.
Measurements: 1,7 cm (inner diameter).
These pieces were made from two separate clay moulds, as evidenced by the hundreds recovered from excavations at the site of Amarna. The earthenware paste was pressed into each mould, the bevel and shank, and the resulting pieces were joined together. The glaze, turquoise blue in this case, was then applied and the whole ring was fired.
Amenhotep III, an important pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt who ruled from c. 1390/1 to 1353/2 BC, was the ninth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. He succeeded his father, Thutmose IV. Together with Queen Tiy he had his son, Akhenaten (Akhenaten), who succeeded him on the throne. Amenhotep seems to have been crowned while still a child, probably between the ages of six and twelve. He was duly ruled in his childhood by his mother, Queen Mutemuia, and by a council of regency.
