He graduated (in 1942) from the Parini Classical High School in Milan; he enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, where he graduated in 1950, after a break due to conscription into the Italian Social Republic's Alpine Corps. At the end of the conflict, he was interned at the Coltano concentration camp (Pisa) . His military experience led him toward anti-militarist and libertarian positions.
From 1950 to 1965, he worked as an engineer at his father's factory, while also cultivating cultural and artistic interests that had engaged him since his youth. In 1964, he married Piera Peroni, founder of Abitare, a magazine of architecture and design. In 1971, from his relationship with Valeria Demolli, his son Nicola Demolli Crivelli (a photographer) was born.
In the mid-1960s, he left his job as an engineer to dedicate himself to visual art and writing. He regularly participated in the summer meetings in Calice Ligure, where many artists, including Emilio Scanavino and Carlo Nangeroni, gathered for seminars, debates, and discussions. The book "Emilio Scanavino & C. " recounts the history of the Calice Ligure community, comprising about a hundred painters who, between the 1960s and 1970s, formed an innovative core of experiences and trends in the Ligurian town. The volume, with a preface by critic Germano Beringheli, gathers the memories and photos of the artists and their friends.
In the 1990s, he participated – with other intellectuals and writers, including Antonio Porta, Giovanni Raboni, Emilio Tadini – in the founding and cultural activities of the Cooperative Raccolto at Cascina del Guado, directed by Daniele Oppi. [4] The Raccolto Cooperative was founded in June 1991 by a group of national and international artists (including Daniele Oppi himself, Giuliano Zosi, Giovanni Raboni, Emilio Tadini, Gianfranco Baruchello, Joshika Homma) linked by mutual acquaintance and representing all creative and expressive disciplines.
Gerolamo “Rino” Crivelli rests at the Civic Mausoleum Garbin, dedicated to illustrious Milanese artists, at the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. This was decided by the Palazzo Marino Committee, "bestowing Rino Crivelli with 'special honors as a sign of gratitude and esteem; as a tribute from Milan to its distinguished fellow citizen. "
