Literature: Vintage photograph of Jim Carroll and Patti Smith, this photograph was taken in 2006. Jim Carroll, the poet and punk rocker who wrote “The Basketball Diaries,” was first encouraged to combine his poetry with rock 'n' roll band for the Jim Carroll Band's music by Patti Smith. He performed with Patty many times, and Patti's sentiments on their friendship explains some of the void the medium bending artist left in this scene.
