Rolex, Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, ref. 16523, a bi-metal bracelet watch, no. U607847, circa 1997, automatic chronograph, 31 jewels, cal. 4030, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, gilt dial, applied luminous pointed baton markers, luminous pointed baton hands, centre chronograph hand, subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, gold coloured bezel, screw down case back, screw down crown and pushers, on a Rolex Oyster bi-metal bracelet with fold over clasp, case back, dial, movement, crown and clasp signed, diameter 38mm, bracelet 16cm

One of the most sought after watches, housing one of the most celebrated movements, the Zenith El Primero, a movement that was brought out of retirement only two years before its use in the Daytona. Although created by Zenith, the movement was extensively reworked by Rolex, with only half of the original Zenith parts retained. The date function was removed and a new, high precision balance and escapement was installed. The El Primero powered Daytona was also the first to feature a sapphire crystal to preserve its good looks. The ref. 16520 series were the last Rolex watches ever to be fitted with an out-sourced movement, lasting in the catalogue until the year 2000.

Condition Report:
Movement is currently functioning. The chronograph counts one minute, but the hour counter has not been tested due to time constraints. Movement appears to be in a generally good condition with little sign of previous intervention when viewed under a 4x loupe. Dial appears to be in an average condition with some light marks and scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe. Hands show marks and tarnishing when viewed under a x4 loupe. Glass has some scratches and marks when viewed under a 4x loupe. Case shows light scratches and marks. Crown screws down and has light scratches when viewed under a 4x loupe. Bracelet has light scratches and some signs of light stretching to links. Some heavier scratches to some of the centre links Clasp is currently functioning and shows light scratches and marks. Bracelet measures approximately 16cm including case. This lot does not come with box or papers. Dreweatts 1759 do not guarantee the working order or accuracy of any lots sold. Due to opening of the case back we recommend this watch is re-sealed by a qualified technician to ensure any stated water resistance is achieved.
