Rolex - skyrocket NO RESERVE PRICE - Unisex - 1901-1949
Rolex Skyrocket, 1942Gold-laminated case with steel case back. The case is in good condition. Case size: 29mm. Approximate case thickness: 10. 5mm. Branded steel caseback with ID and serial number 2534318Original crown, hands, and dial. Extremely well cared for Rolex Geneve Cal. 59 movement, clean and in perfect working order The leather band is not original, and measures 21. 5cm including the case. This watch was made for Canadian aviation by Rolex during the world war. The case was produced in Canada by a subsidiary of Rolex. According to some, this was because Rolex avoided paying import taxes. In my opinion, Rolex's decision was due to the fact that transport of goods by air and especially naval routes was not safe, and they were often attacked by Nazi U-boats aiming for naval convoys to and from the Americas. In the same period, Rolex produced different watches for military orders, including the Victory, Pioneer, Wellington, and Skyrocket. All have 29mm case backs with cal. 59. Only some were produced in Canada with a non-Rolex-branded case and Rolex cal. 59 movement from 1942, the year the US entered the war.
