Roman Bronze Ladle w/ Lengthy Handle

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful cast-bronze ladle with a rounded form and wonderful detailing. The cup portion has a slightly-recessed base decorated with curvilinear, circular, and linear motifs in repousse, short walls, a shallow interior cavity, and a large, flared rim. A thin hammered bronze handle projects perpendicularly from the cup, secured with a singular rivet, and terminates in a hook featuring a flat baluster finial. Both the cup and handle components are covered in gorgeous layers of dark-brown and emerald-green patina - a fabulous example from ancient Rome! Size: 7.75" L x 3.5" W (19.7 cm x 8.9 cm).

Condition Report: Age-commensurate surface wear, slight bending to overall form of cup and handle, fading to some low-relief details, and light discoloration, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits as well as rich brown and green patina throughout.
