Roman Emerald and Gold Bead Necklace
1st-3rd century AD. A restrung necklace of tubular emerald beads with later gold spacer beads. 10.4 grams, 50cm (19 3/4"). Property of a West London gentleman; his collection formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Dr Bonewitz notes: 'These beads are all drilled natural crystals, almost certainly from 'Cleopatra's Mines' in Egypt.'
