Roman Glass Vessel - Gorgeous Irridescence!

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous translucent yellow glass vessel, free blown to have a bulbous base and a long, tapering, thin neck ending in a small, flared mouth. The star here is the silvery, pearlescent, and rainbow iridescence on the surface of this vessel, with the silver contrasting particularly dramatically with the warm color of the glass. An item like this, with a larger body and narrow neck, was probably made to prevent evaporation of some precious liquid like perfume or unguent. Size: 1.75" W x 2.25" H (4.4 cm x 5.7 cm)

Condition Report: Intact, with a pontil on base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time.
