A fascinating 65% gold (equivalent to 15K+) ring, with a delicate ring and an ovoid bezel deeply incised with the letters SPQR. This famous inscription means, in English, "The Roman Senate and People" or "The Senate and People of Rome", and refers to the government of ancient Rome. It first appeared on inscriptions around 80 BCE and continued to be used until the time of Constantine the Great. Who might this tiny ring have been for - the child of a Senator? The pinky of an adult with diminutive hands? It is fun to imagine who might have worn this ring!
