Roman / Islamic Glass, Stone, & Faience Bead Strands

Roman and Ancient Near East, Imperial through early Islamic periods, ca. 200 to 900 CE. A beautiful collection of two strands comprised of dozens of Roman and Islamic beads formed from colorful faience, glass, and stone. The smaller strand boasts 32 beads of vibrant hues, and in the center hangs a fossilized ammonite pendant. The larger strand has 78 strung beads of dramatic and stylistically varied compositions, with a central glass disc pendant, and a singular bead used as a knot anchor near the terminals. Size (largest): 30" L (76.2 cm); size (smallest): 11" L (27.9 cm); size of largest bead (ammonite): 1.25" W (3.2 cm).

Condition Report: Strung in modern times. Small nicks and abrasions to some beads, with fading to original coloration, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits throughout, and nice iridescence on some glass beads.
