[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast-leaded-bronze oil lamp of a broad form with a generally circular body, a protruding wick spout, and a narrow handle beneath a tall, triangular thumb rest. The open design of the lamp suggests it once had an accompanying lid with a tab that perhaps rested within the lower perforation of the thumb rest and handle. Size: 5.875" W x 2.9" H (14.9 cm x 7.4 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-estate of Robert Flourance, Virginia, USA, before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#157706
Condition Report: Original lid missing as shown. Slight indentations and bending to walls, thumb rest, and handle, with light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Wonderful brown and green patina throughout.
