Roman Medusa Head Mount
1st-2nd century AD. A hollow-formed bronze mount comprising a female head with flange rim, elaborately dressed hanks of hair and stub wings to the brow, fleshy facial features; pierced in four places for attachment. Cf. Rolland, H., Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 314, for type. 164 grams, 6.5cm (1 1/2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
