Roman Pottery Oil Lamp w/ Two Busts & Planta Pedis

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed pottery oil lamp with a circular base, a pierced handle, repeating grooves along the shoulders, and a wide wick spout. Within the recessed tondo are two fill holes that flank the top and bottom of a male and female bust. The lamp is covered in thick orange-red slip, and a fragment of the original iron wick is visible within the tondo center. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 4.125" L x 3" W (10.5 cm x 7.6 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

Condition Report: Minor abrasions and nicks to base, body, handle, and spout, with softening to finer details within tondo, fading to original pigment, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout, and remnant of original iron wick in center of tondo.
