[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. The Romans are known for their engineering prowess and here is an artifact attesting to their ingenuity - a terracotta plumbing pipe with ridged walls and a narrow nozzle. Plumbing pipes like this allude to the Romans' extravagant use of water, most of which went to their public baths. The Romans erected their first aqueduct in 312 BCE and by the 3rd century CE had built eleven aqueducts to supply access to water for the populace! Size: 6" H (15.2 cm)

Provenance: private Rochester, Michigan, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany.
