Roman School, 17th Century, Portrait of a gentleman, bust length, in black with a white collar
Roman School, 17th Century
Portrait of a gentleman, bust length, in black with a white collar
oil on canvas, charged with a coat of arms
unframed: 62.2 x 50.2 cm.; 24½ x 19¾ in.
framed: 85.5 x 68.7 cm.; 33¾ x 27 in.
Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured. There are surface scuff marks and minor losses along the upper and lower margins. Inspection under ultraviolet light is almost entirely impeded by the opaque, milky varnish making any former intervention difficult to discern. There appears to be a small area of retouching in the left side of the man’s forehead and possibly some small spots in his collar, the shadows of his neck and scattered in the background. Overall the painting appears to be in good condition.
