Roman Turquoise and Gold Bead Necklace
1st-3rd century AD. A restrung designer necklace of graduated irregular and barrel-shaped turquoise beads with gold-coloured spacer beads between, two groups of three beads formed as a tripartite melon-type bead, each comprising two white hexagonal beads with a domed outer face and a single hexagonal blue glass bead with notched edges between; central glass bead with gold foil band. 17.8 grams, 42.5cm (16 3/4"). Property of a West London gentleman; his collection formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s.
