Royal Copenhagen Shepherd Boy On Rock Figurine

Royal Copenhagen painted porcelain Shepherd Boy On Rock #1659 figurine designed in 1914 by sculptor Christian Thomsen (1860 - 1921), underside of base marked with Royal Copenhagen's hand painted cobalt blue 'three waves' mark along with the decorator's initials and the statue's mold number, "1659", which is painted in green, green "ROYAL COPENHAGEN" stamp under base along with the word "DENMARK" with a mark under the "D" in Denmark dating the production of this piece to 1955, base impressed with the item's mold number while the lower part of the base carries the abbreviated form of the artist Christian Thomsen's name "Chr. Th" in script.

Thomsen worked for Royal Copenhagen from 1898 until his death in 1921 and produced more than 100 different figures for the company. He is particularly recognized for his porcelain sculptures depicting children and fantastical creatures including fauns and trolls, as well as for pastoral subjects like this piece.
