A Reprint in full of the First Edition, 1859, of the Second Edition, 1868, and of the Fifth Edition, 1889, together with Notes indicating the minor variants (found in the Third Edition, 1872, and in the Fourth Edition, 1879). Edited by Nathan Haskell Dole. 12 drawings in color by Blanche McManus, published by L.C. Page and Company, Boston. MDCCCCVII [1907] imprinted on the bottom of the title page, last copyright 1903.

Semi-soft leather cover, spine with three raised bands, gold decorations and lettering on front board and spine; 5" x 7.1/8"; endpapers are creased at the hinges; inscriptions on the front endpaper, 159 pages including Notes; Chronological Table, and Comparative Table of Stanzas in the Five Editions; all color plates on velum paper are present; tight binding, very good condition. Book is housed in special collector's slipcase

Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia", was famous during his lifetime not as a poet but as an astronomer and mathematician. The earliest reference to his having written poetry is found in his biography by al-Isfahani, written 43 years after his death.
