Horse pistol, with military-issue appearance, but of civilian artisanal manufacture by a gunsmith of the Caucasus region. The weapon is simple, very sturdy, and in perfect working order. The lock has firm springs and well-marked safety and starting notches. The weapon clearly had a tumultuous past; it bears traces of a gunsmith’s repairs, some parts have been replaced and new ones adapted. This type of weapon is not often encountered; in these region with limited resources, worn out items were not kept: they were dismantled and the parts were used to repair other weapons. The weapon bears a few hallmarks, unidentifiable, which are simply proof that the weapon may have been tested by the manufacturer, or that it was regulatory. This weapon has a beautiful patina and is functional. Beautiful testimony to the past in tumultuous regions, where one paid for one's own equipment, dividing one's time between the army and work in the fields.
