Russian Viking Era Iron Spear Tip

**First Time At Auction**

Eastern Europe, Russia, Viking era, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. An iron spear head with a long tang and two pointed fins at the sides of the short pointed blade. The surface has developed a rich umber patina over the ages. Vikings traveled eastward into Slavic areas along the strategic Dnieper River to expand trade with the Byzantine empire. The constant threat of invasion created a need for strong iron weaponry for defense such as this spear head. Size: 7.125" L x .875" W (18.1 cm x 2.2 cm)
