Autograph Letter Signed, "HSchliemann," in English, to publisher John Murray, requesting that copies of his book [Troy and Its Ruins] be sent to himself and a colleague, and requesting that Schliemann also be sent a copy of any article by Frank Calvert published in reply [to Schliemann's Guardian article]. 1 page, 8vo, pale blue paper, with integral blank; slight discoloration along left edge, folds. Frank Calvert (1828-1908) was a British geologist, diplomat, and archaeologist, who was the first to excavate at the site that was later acknowledged to contain the ruins of ancient Troy.
In 1875, John Murray published Schliemann's book, Troja und seine Ruinen [Troy and Its Ruins]. In letters and articles published that year in the Guardian, Calvert and Schliemann squabbled about who deserved credit for the discoveries of the Trojan ruins.
