[ translate ]

SCOTT EATON (B. 1973)
Human Allocation of Space
bronze sculpture on base
19 3/5 x 29 1/2 x 9 3/4 in. (50 x 75 x 25 cm.)
Executed in 2024

This work is number one from a series of five.

Provenance
The artist

Literature
A sculptural work drawn, not modelled. The artist created this piece using a custom ‘shape’ neural network designed to output sculptural form in response to his input drawings. For this work, Eaton devised an abstract “shape vocabulary” which he taught to the neural network using a large synthetic dataset designed to teach the machine how to translate his gestural drawings into extruded three-dimensional form. The resulting system transforms his drawings into precise, but often unexpected sculptural geometries of planes and angles. Human Allocation of Space is the first of a series of works exploring this process.
