There is a handwritten note from Louis Siegriest affixed to the verso from March 10, 1983 further identifying the work as by Selden Gile.
The present work depicts Selden Connor Gile's rustic cabin on Chabot Road in Oakland where he resided from 1917 to 1927. The cabin, affectionately called 'The Chow House', was the creative hub for The Society of Six where they met weekly for hearty food, drink and debate.
