Small Chinese Ningxia Rug, Country of Origin / Rug Type: China Rugs, Circa Date: 1910 – A symmetrical arrangement of flowing lines defines this wonderful Chinese rug. Though only a few basic colors are used in the presentation of this masterpiece, the artist skillfully uses contrast to create wonderful focal points. A zigzagging flow is present around the borders of the Ningxia rug, adding further variety and movement as the viewer’s eyes travel from those key sections of movement to the heart of the antique rug itself. Here, a gentle beige backdrop stands as a neutral canvas before the dark lines at the foreground, which are arranged into several twisting vines and fronds that create horizontal and vertical symmetry in the work.
