Statuette in the style of maternities featuring Ba Fâro Bambara culture, Mali First half of the 20th century Wood Height: 72 cm - Width: 20 - Thickness: 16 cm Wooden statuette depicting a woman standing with her arms brought back in front of her body. It has the stylistic characteristics of the culture: a pair of prominent and generous breasts, an angular face with tapered lateral strands, thin limbs. These statuettes embodying Ba Fâro, both the deity of water and the mother of men, were used on the occasion of the annual fertility rites of the Gwan. Women came to worship them or to ask them to act in favour of help in procreation.
