Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, and the paint surface is dirty with a discoloured varnish. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals some older, minor retouchings in the background notably to the right of the sitter's head in an area measuring approx. 5 x 3 cm., and to a small area in his right cheek. More recent intervention comprises small, scattered retouchings in the upper half of the sitter's chest, and a handful of small areas along the left and right margins. In overall very good condition and will respond well to cleaning.
