Salomon Garf received a thorough art education at the Amsterdam Academy with professors Allebé, Dake and Van der Waay before settling in Blaricum in 1903. His typical Laren genre scenes, figure pieces and portraits sold well at the Laren Art Trade. He painted still lifes for his own pleasure. They clearly show his great artistic talent, as do his beautiful, fashionable portrait and figure pieces.
