(Geneva , Switzerland).This is a series of twelve color graphics in which Dalí interpreted traditional astrological symbols in a surreal and very personal way. Dali created three different versions and interpretations of the signs of the Zodiac over a period of 10 years experimenting with different graphic techniques. The first version was created 1967 as lithographs commissioned by p Leon Amiel of New York and Paris. Amiel was a major publisher who specialized in producing and distributing limited editions of prints by the most important artists of the 20th century (including Dali).The series was issued as a luxury portfolio (portfolio), usually containing 12 lithographs with twelve characters and an additional frontispiece (title page). The zodiac themes are universally appealing, which made the series extremely popular with art collectors and those interested in esotericism alike, making it one of Dali's more sought-after sets of prints. Salvaor Dali returned to the Zodiac motif in 1978, creating a new series, this time in etching.While the first edition had a more free-form, painterly feel, with broader brushstrokes within a lithographic frame, the 1978 series is more precise and linear (typical of etchings), in a small, circular frame, giving it the classic look of medals or shields. IThe inspiration for the sign of the Twins (Gemini) in Dali's zodiacal cycles - as in the astronomical and astrological traditions - was Castor and Pollux- Castor (the mortal son of King Tyndareos of Sparta).
