Salvatore Rizzuti - I Dannati

[ translate ]

The item offered today is one of the first marble works by the famous sculptor Salvatore Rizzuti. This artwork was bought by my grandfather (Salvatore Fantauzzo) in 1975, when Salvatore Rizzuti attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. This nationally renowned sculptor, who is also the favourite sculptor of Leonardo Sciascia and Bruno Caruso, sold his artwork to my grandfather. Since then his work was and is a family heirloom. It was kept outdoors to be shown to the public (in fact, as you can see in the photos, it developed a patina, defined “nice” by the sculptor himself) . The work for sale is entitled “I Dannati” and represents the expression of pain and anguish that the great poet Dante wanted to express in his universal work “The Divine Comedy”, giving the impression of being truly in front of the terror and martyrdom of souls in the circles of Hell. The statue is carved out from a single block of Carrara marble. You can easily find information about the sculptor and his work on the web. The work comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the Academy of Palermo.
