Samaritan Pottery Oil Lamp - Floral Motifs

Ancient Near East, northern Israel, Samaritan culture, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. This small mold-made terracotta vessel has a base comprised of three concentric rings, rounded bottom sides, two raised semi-circular patterns defining the bottom profile of a narrow neck channel, rounded shoulders with two raised concentric semi-circular designs flanking either side of a large and jagged fill hole, a raised tab-shaped thumb rest, and a narrow wick spout. The topside of the neck channel features three raised floral motifs as well as impressed arrow-shaped designs defining the wick spout. Size: 3.25" L x 2.5" W x 1.25" H (8.3 cm x 6.4 cm x 3.2 cm).

Provenance: private Orange County, California USA collection, acquired before 2000; ex-Archaeological Center, Robert Deutsch collection, Jaffa, Israel
