signed ‘Sara Troost’ and dated ‘1779’ r.o. Verso: dated again in pencil ‘Anno 1779’. According to label with annotation on the frame verso: 'Approved by Mr. Hofsteder on 1 April 2007 in the program Tussen Kunst & Kitsch' (= Mr. John Hoogsteder). Sara Troost was the daughter of the painter Cornelis Troost (1696-1750) and the sister-in-law of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726 - 1798). Her oeuvre consisted mainly of portrait and genre art and her drawn portraits served as an example for etchings by contemporaries such as Reinier Vinkeles and Jacob Houbraken.
