Sauropod Dinosaur Vertebra Sauropod Jurassic Utah, USA Few vertebrate fossils capture the imagination as much as a complete Dinosaur vertebra. This offering of a single bone likely represents one of the caudal, or tail, vertebrae from a large, plant-eating Dinosaur of the Sauropod variety. With a classic "hourglass" shape and shallow indentations on each end, this fossil exhibits nice preservation, mottled coloration, and good size, with the piece measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length. Evidence of expected stabilization is visible on the surface of the singular bone, dating back to the Jurassic, which is a nice combination of size, condition, and form.
