France, c. 774 x 510 cm, second half of the 18th century, cross-woven, imperialistic hand knotted carpet in heraldic format, manufactured as palace carpet as commissioned work, a filigree round medallion enclosed in a lozenge on rust-red ground, the spandrels containing curved cornucopias overflowing with flowers and leaves, in superb colour and design quality, this museum-quality piece is still in good condition, with only minor signs of age and wear and minimal low pile areas, original finishes and side edges, several professionally executed repairs along the sides (not discernible on the facing side). All sides additionally secured with a linen band on the back.
