Scarce Hardy St. George Multiplying Fly Reel
First offered in the company catalogs for the year 1927 and made as a 2:1 retrieve ratio multiplier, this 3 3/8" size was the only one offered until a larger size was cataloged the following year. The external 2 3/8" gear housing is positioned in the upper right quadrant of the reel and is just above the agate line guide set in a nickel silver ring, built for right-hand wind only. Finished with a three screw aluminum spool latch, smooth brass foot and a nickel silver tension screw on the winding plate rim, the reel functions reasonably well, but will have no condition grade, the result of a replaced grasp, grasp post, winding plate, a frame repair that consists of a pinned shim inserted inside the perforated spool side of the rim, and two frame posts that have been replaced with pins, covered with a roller sleeve, and "pinned" to the frame.
