Scarce Japanese Nanbokucho Period Tanto Of Unusual Shape
This is a very old Koto period tanto in an unusual form of Katakiriba construction. Flat on one side and deeply angled on the other it is equipped with a 2 inch tip that only be described as unokubizukuri. The old original polish is still in good shape with an occasional area of marrying from drawing and returning it to its scabbard. Surface grain is Itame with a susuha temper line. The tsuba is pierced iron with remnant of gold fire gilding. The handle is textured brown lacquer The scabbard is chipped black lacquer complete with a black length of sagco for tying it securely to the waist belt. Full Length 13 inch Blade Length 8 inch
