Large antique painting, oil on canvas from the first part of the 17th century depicting an allegorical scene dedicated to the love of painting. The painting I offer, from my collection, features peculiar characters that can be traced back to an author of a Bolognese school close to Francesco Gessi and Guido Reni. The artistic inspiration undoubtedly comes from that Allegory of Painting by Francesco Gessi of 1630 owned by the CARISBO Foundation. The Reni-style putto illuminated by skilled shots of Caravaggesque light tries to crown a young personification of painting, instead of a boy. The painting has been recently cleaned and the typical irrelevant losses of colour have been reintegrated on the bottom right part of the painting, all made professionally.
