This two-piece sculpture is Panjurli, rider of a boar. Panjurli is worshipped in Coastal Karnataka/North Kerala, South India as a part of the Bhuta (spirit) worship. This folk tradition is practised even now. The Pantheon of Bhuta worship includes sprits riding tiger, buffalo, bull, elephant and bird. Going by the open and inverted crown (basket-like) , this Panjurli is from Kerala. The black colour is due to oxidation and please see the bottom view for the near-original colour.
