Sculpture, A carved Christ child doll - Wood - 15th century
A very rare medieval hand-carved polychromous wooden doll. This doll could have been used as a so-called Christ child. Dressing such dolls was a religious game that was mainly done by nuns. The lack of arms suggests such a practice for dressing. The work is dated between the 15th and 16th century. Purchased at auction house Derksen, the Netherlands in February 2020. A copy of the invoice will be sent along this lot. The pictures are part of the description.
