Sculpture - Bronze - Bronze Skakyamuni buddha - Burma - Late 19th century

Description Bronze Burmese sculpture Ava style representing Shakyamuni Buddha sitting in the vajraparyanka position (left foot is placed first on the right thigh) . The hand gesture (mudra) is called "taking the earth to witness" ( bhumisparsa -mudra) NOTE : Ava period is 1354 to 1555 Buddha images from the Ava period are recognizable by the large forehead. The face was oval shaped with a pointed chin. The eyebrows were curved like human eyebrows. The eyes glazed downwards in the stat of meditation, the bridge of the nose was straight and low. The lips were small and little pointed forward with a clear cleft above the upper lip. The torso was well-built similar to the Toungoo style. This bouddha is on the style but patina and details confirm by experience that this bronze buddha is a minimum of 125 years old.
