A fantastic and exceedingly rare carved wooden and polychrome painted head of a women, wearing a ribbon in her hair which is tied in a bun or "chignon" to the back. This head was once part of a nearly life-size wooden shop-display model or so-called "mannequin", as can be seen from the large square aperture underneath. A great rarity and beautifully carved ! A museum-worthy piece ! France. Louis XIV era. Circa 1700. Dimensions: H 25. 5cm ; D (side) 25cm ; W (front) 17cm
