A rare Holy Land mother-of-pearl carving depicting the Flight to Egypt. Mary is holding baby Jezus while seated on a donkey, which is lead by Joseph. An angel is pointing them in the right direction. This carving is much earlier than those usually encountered and dates - judging from its archaic style - to the 17th or early 18th century. Dimensions: H 15cm ; W 15cm Broken and repaired. Fantastic patina of old age and devotional use !
