A sculpture full of symbolism depicts one of the patron saints of the Temple, Saint Bartholomew, subduing the devil who is chained to his feet by a chain forged in iron. The saint bears the attribute of his martyrdom: the knife with which he was flayed, as well as his skin (a clear reference to the wisdom represented by the snake) taken as a coat on his left shoulder.
