Ancient China. Weight 20kg. Finely hand carved, carved from a single block of hard mineral stone. Large altar statue of Buddha in the Dharmachakra Mudra The seal and wax stamp are still visible. The sculpture represents the Mudra Dharmachakra In this mudra, the tip of the middle finger of one hand touches the tip of the thumb and index finger of the other hand, forming the mystical circle near the heart. The gesture represents the setting in motion of the Wheel of Dharma. After achieving enlightenment, the Buddha gave his first teaching to a companion in the Gazelle Park of Sarnath. This gesture therefore recalls the moment of teaching. The item is very heavy and needs careful packaging.
