Antique painting, oil on canvas, XVII century, depicting “Testa di carattere”. This evocative painting is attributed to a Flemish artist influenced by the Italianizing painting of the Antwerp school popularized by Pietro Paolo Rubens and Antoon van Dyck. These style clues seem to validate Gaspar de Crayer's attributive reference, in the old cartouche on the back of the frame. There are some scattered restorations and some slight peeling of the surface, but nothing truly relevant. There are no conservation issues and the original canvas is supported by an old re-lining that does not seem to require restoration. Fine craquelure consistent with the painting’s age.
