This nineteenth century painting of the Italian school and the Milanese area shows a splendid and fascinating "Crucifixion with solar eclipse", made in tempera on canvas (FIRST CANVAS) . The canvas of the painting measures 96. 5 x 60. 7 cm and the wooden frame 102. 6 x 66. 9 cm. The iconographic material concerning the Crucifixion ranges from the first uncertain incisions of the sign of the Cross that we find in the catacombs, to the highest expressions of the depictions of the Crucifixion of Jesus that we find in sacred art of all centuries; it ranges from works of high value intended for rich and refined clients, to the naïve manifestations of popular expressiveness that we find in votive chapels, in religious festivals that celebrate the Passion of Christ, and more. In this painting to the left of Christ on the cross we see the Madonna in prayer and St. John, at the foot of the cross the praying Magdalene and on the right of the Roman legionaries. In the background, on the left, the fascinating eclipse of the black sun. The work is perfectly preserved and presents the drawing as well as the typical palette of the Italian-Milanese school of painting: on the first canvas; it is authentic in all its parts.
