Scuola Italiana - Madonna con bambino, San Giovannino, San Francesco e Santa Teresa

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola Italiana
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 102_85_0_cm
Oil on canvas of the Italian school (probably Lombard/Venetian) of the XVIII century, 96x79 cm without frame, 102x85 cm with frame. The painting has been relined, a new stretcher has also been place, thus increasing its longevity. The scene is intimate and is defined as a Sacred Conversation as there is the presence of Our Lady with Child and other saints, including Saint Teresa on the left, who looks towards the Child, in the centre of the scene, who in turn reciprocates the gaze. The little Jesus is held by Our Lady, who has her face turned, in a very sweet expression of affection, towards St. John who is in the lower right corner. He shows the iconographic details that characterise him: the red robe accompanied by camel skin and the stick. A similar stick is also a symbol linked to the iconography of St. Francis, who is more hidden on the right and participates ecstatically in the scene. On the whole, the work appears well balanced and displays all the holiness and solemnity of a Holy Conversation.
