\Artist: Scuola italiana del XVII secolo
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 90_74_5_cm
Antique painting, oil on canvas, from the 17th century, depicting Venus and Adonis. The subject, which describes Adonis led by cupids to sleeping Venus, is derived from the Venus and Adonis painted by Francesco Albani (1578-1660) in 1621 and kept in Paris at the Louvre Museum. From this painting in the Louvre, Albani himself and his closest followers made various derivations and versions. The painting proposed here presents peculiar characters attributable to an author of the Italian school, highlighting an admirable quality of pigment and drafting, resulting in very fine workmanship, as well as the analysis of the cretto is compatible with the period of the artist's activity and of his shop. Therefore inducing us to think that the author may be to be found among the pupils and followers of the teacher. In fairly good general condition considering the age of the painting, some scattered restorations and some unveiling of the painted surface can be seen. The original canvas has a relining probably made in the first half of the last century, which does not seem to need any interventions. A fine crackle is visible compared to the time. The frame was probably replaced at the time of the relining. Framed in a beautiful frame of recent times, which has slight defects and shortcomings. The canvas measures are 77 x 62 cm. The frame measures are 90 x 74 cm. Work accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity, as per current legislation. Shipping via insured express courier and packaging carried out with the utmost care.
