Vor dunklem Grund heben sich wirkungsvoll die Halbfiguren von Maria und Josef ab. Die Lichtquelle scheint von dem Jesuskind auszugehen, welches links auf einem Kissen sitzt und mit seinen Händen eine Diagonale zeichnet, die auf Maria abgezeichnet ist und zugleich auf seinen Kreuzestod formal hinweist.

Sammlung Falcone Lucifero (1898-1997), Rom, Minister des königlichen Hauses von Savoyen (1944-1946).
Sammlung Pandolfini-Corsini, Rom. Die Sammlung [Pandolfini-Corsini] wurde großteils an die Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica in Rom verkauft, als Prinz Neri Tommaso 1856 seinen Sitz nach Florenz verlegte bzw. 1883 den Palazzo veräußerte. Unser Gemälde wurde jedoch mit nach Florenz genommen, wo es im Catalogo della Galleria dei prinipi Corsini von 1886 aufgeführt wird: „451. Conca Sebastiano, n. in Gaeta nel 1676 m. in Roma nel 1764, scolaro di Solimena. – Sopra a della paglia vedesi seduto il bambino Gesù, sorretto con la mano destra dalla divina madre, la quale con la sinistra tiene sollevato un bianco lino, guardando il suo sposo Giuseppe. Mez. fig, metà del vero- Tel. al. m. 0,48 lar. m. 0,65“. Beatrice Corsini (1868-1955) heiratete 1889 den Conte Roberto Pandolfini, sodass es nicht verwundert, dass das vorliegende Gemälde in den Besitz der Familie Pandolfini überging. (1280371) (2) (13)
