Title: Shell Mother of Pearl Victorian Calling Card Case

Rare exquisite work of art from the Belle Epoch era. Hinged lidded flat box made from molded from exquistinely shaded shells. The central rectangular panels are darker and the edges a lighter redder color. The central panels are incised and inset with mother of pearl in a branch leaf and flower design. The lid has a little brass button for opening and closing. There is also midway a small brass nail. On the lid top is a rectangular silver metal inset. The inside of the case is lined with a soft brown felt over wood. There is a white material on the top and bottom edge of the lid. The case is very light. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS:3 5/8” tall x 2 5/8” wide x ½Â” thick. Weighs 1.1 oz CONDITION: The condition is very good for the age. There is one leaf missing and 3 pieces of stem. One small nail is missing on the hinge on the lid. Two small crack lines come off the hinge. There is fraying of the inside lining and pulling away from the wood on the inside top. There is also some loss to the bone rim on the inside lid top. The case is a small jewel crafted from natural materials.
