Shield - Wood - South Africa - 54 cm
Impi (or i. Mpi, plural izi. Mpi [1]) is a term from the Zulu language meaning “war” or “combat”, and by analogy, it designates persons groupes together to wage war; hence, impi ya mashosha means “an army”. However, most of the time for the Westerners, the term Impi either refers to the Zulu regiment, named Ibutho in the relevant language, or the whole army itself. Shields used in parades symbolise the warrior strength.
